An Evening With Rick Barnes

On October 1, 2009, Sipe's Orchard Home held a festive event at the Mosteller Mansion in Hickory, NC. Local dignitaries, celebrities, and friends of the Orchard gathered to enjoy an inspiring presentation by Rick Barnes, Hickory native and head basketball coach at the University of Texas, and to learn about the new Transitional Living program being developed at Sipe's.

Rick Barnes gave an insightful talk about young people and dreams, success and failure, and the positive impact everyone can make on the youth in this area.

Warren Hutton, chairman of the Sipe's board, spoke about the need for housing and other support services for 18 to 21 year olds in Catawba County and Sipe's plan to meet that need.

Hal Row, WHKY radio talk show host, served as master of ceremonies for the event.

Numerous Hickory notables, including mayor Rudy Wright, Sue Millholland, and Ned Jarret attended.

Door prizes, beverages provided by Hickory's Best of Beers, hors d'oeuvres, and music by the Rick Cline Trio all added to the congenial atmosphere, highlighted by Coach Barnes' inspiring address.
The attendees learned about the Transitional Living program being developed by Sipe's Orchard Home and the impact it will have on the youth of this area.
