Therapeutic Equestrian Program

The world looks different from the back of a horse.

At Sipe's, our horses teach lessons ranging from balance and coordination to self-confidence and self-control. All children at Sipe's can participate in our equestrian program.

On sunny days, a group will usually gather at the barn to brush, saddle, ride, or simply soak up the sights and sounds and smells. Under the guidance of our riding instructor, the children learn skills from basic care and respect for horses up to advanced riding techniques.
What do children gain at the barn or on a horse?

  •   Self-confidence
  •   Self-control
  •   Patience
  •   Communication skills
  •   Coordination
  •   Emotional health
  •   Outside interests
  •   Physical abilities

For many children, getting near a horse (not to mention on a horse) requires managing fears and learning to communicate in a new way. It's not easy to sit on an animal who is ten times bigger, stronger, and faster than you. But once you've done it, you know you can overcome fears, and you begin to realize you can accomplish a whole lot more.
